Building an intelligent partner to support student-centered learning
AI service powered by educational data and tailored to lecture content
Future-ready education model linked to YU’s state-of-the-art AI Smart Education Center
[September 11, 2025]

Yeungnam University (YU, President CHOI Oe-chool) announced on September 3 the introduction of an AI-powered personalized learning support chatbot, the AI Tutor. The initiative marks more than a simple application of AI—it represents the creation of an innovative educational environment that integrates with the university’s Learning Management System (LMS) to support each student’s unique learning journey.
The AI Tutor provides contextual answers and tailored explanations to student questions, helping learners understand key concepts and continue their studies anytime, anywhere. Beyond answering queries, it functions as an “intelligent learning partner” by analyzing learning data, diagnosing progress, and recommending supplementary resources to strengthen weak areas. Rather than directly giving answers, the system offers step-by-step hints and guidance, encouraging students to develop independent problem-solving skills.
Accessibility has also been enhanced: students can use the service through a web browser without installing additional programs, while faculty receive analytical reports based on student question data, offering valuable insights for improving instruction.
At the core of the AI Tutor is YU’s extensive library of lecture videos and AI-generated subtitles. This foundation enables a differentiated service compared to generalized AI systems, ensuring that responses are directly aligned with actual course content and maximizing learning effectiveness. In addition, an AI-powered real-time multilingual translation system will be integrated with lecture scripts in the second semester of 2025 to better support international students. This system was already piloted in the first semester of 2025 to enhance educational support for international students.
From the second semester of 2025, YU plans to pilot the AI Tutor across regular courses, refine its features based on student and faculty feedback, and gradually expand its application. The initiative is expected to play a key role in realizing YU’s vision of “hyper-personalized education.”
CHOI Young-wook, Director of the YU AI Smart Education Center, stated, “The introduction of the AI Tutor is a significant step in maximizing the value of YU’s high-quality educational content while supporting the growth of each student. We will continue to combine AI technology with the university’s extensive educational data to build a pioneering education model that fosters future-ready talent.”
Meanwhile, YU’s AI Smart Education Center, launched in January 2025, is accelerating educational innovation. The 1,200㎡ facility is equipped with next-generation integrated studios, including an XR studio, multi-studio, interactive studio, and a personal creator studio, providing advanced educational infrastructure for both students and faculty. Leveraging this center, YU is leading a new paradigm in future education by integrating AI, 3D educational content, and data-driven learning platforms.
